About Tae Kwon Do Tae Kwon Do originated from Korea, although the modern day art was officially named in 1953 its roots are very old; the earliest records of it’s practise in Korea date back to 50BC. Translated; “Tae” means “kick or strike with the foot”, “Kwon” means “strike with the hand” and “Do” means “discipline”, “art” or “way”. As this suggests Tae Kwon Do is a martial art which combines unique kicking and striking techniques, but it is also much more than this; as well as self defence and fighting skills students learn discipline and strength of mind and spirit.
